Topic Tagging Continued

Forgot to mention in the previous post that not only are we automatically assigning topics using our own taxonomy but we are also comparing these and adding our own recommendation system using a Dirichlet analysis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latent_Dirichlet_allocation). This is being undertaken by our very brilliant Head of AI: Prof Csaba Veres from Bergen Univeristy. Once we have combined both types of topic assignments and recommendation systems we hope (fingers crossed) to have a system as good as googles (at least in our vertical)! More news coming very soon…

Automating Topic Tagging

This is just a quick post highlighting some of the progress we have made in topic tagging our content. As some of you have pointed out so far we it could be better but this is all set to change very soon…..

There are two main areas of topic tagging which I’ll outline below:

1. The way the topics are laid out is set to improve, even though in our database they are hierarchical at the moment they are all displayed on the same level. e.g. “linear algebra currently is displayed next to “algebra” even though “linear algebra  is a subset of “algebra”. This interface is due to be updated and users will be able to find content by navigating through our topic trees.

2. Much more excitingly and more importantly, the process of actually tagging topics to content has greatly improved. To start with we were doing this manually and several very kind PhD students have been helping us out but we now have found a way using some very clever text analysis software to automatically assign topics to books. So far it looks that this piece of kit works about 70-80% of the time, combining this with a bit of human oversight should solve the problem very quickly.

For those of you who come back often, Point 1 should be going live this week and point 2 will be live in the next  fortnight or so.

Flooved’s Development Timeline

From the copious amounts of amazing feedback which we have received from 100’s of professors we want to let everyone know about our proposed development timeline. We know that at the moment there are loads of features many of you would like to see and what would be fantastic is if you (professors and students) could comment about them, make suggestions and propose new ones, refinements and amendments!

For every feature we will write a separate post explaining it in more detail but please see below our general overview:

Flooved Dev Timeline:
